Authorship Policies

Asshika: Journal of English Language Teaching and Learning acknowledges that authorship should reflect substantial intellectual contribution to a manuscript and that contributorship and accountability extend to all stages of the research and publication process. An author is an individual who has made meaningful contributions to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; who has participated in the drafting of the manuscript or its critical revision for important intellectual content; and who has given final approval of the version to be published and agrees to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All four criteria must be met by an individual to be listed as an author: (1) substantial contribution to the conception, design, or analysis of data; (2) substantial contribution to the execution of research or data collection; (3) significant involvement in drafting or critically revising the manuscript; and (4) final approval of the manuscript and willingness to take responsibility for the published work. Individuals who contribute in only non–conceptual or non–writing capacities, such as providing funding, general supervision, or technical assistance without substantive intellectual input, do not qualify for authorship but may be acknowledged or listed as contributors where appropriate.

Contributorship, by contrast, includes those who contributed meaningfully to components of the work that do not meet all four authorship criteria; such contributors should be recognized in an explicit Contributorship or Acknowledgments section with a clear description of their specific roles, and all contributors must provide consent to being identified as such. The order of authorship should reflect the relative magnitude of each author’s contribution, with the lead author typically listed first, followed by others in decreasing order of contribution; in cases of equal contribution, authors should agree on the order a priori and document this agreement in the manuscript’s Author Contribution Statement. When multiple authors collaborate across disciplines or stages, authorship order may be determined through open, collaborative discussion among the principal contributors before submission, and this decision should be documented in writing.

In all cases, a formal Author Contribution Statement must accompany the submission, detailing each author’s specific roles, such as conceptualization and design, data collection and/or analysis, manuscript drafting, critical revision, and final approval, including an explicit statement regarding accountability for the integrity of the entire work and the parts for which each author is responsible; if there are any changes to the author list during revision, such changes require written agreement from all listed authors and must be reflected in the revised manuscript, with the updated Author Contribution Statement demonstrating the revised allocation of responsibility.

The journal emphasizes ethical conduct in authorship, prohibiting honorary authorship and ghost authorship, and any suspected violations will be investigated under Cigarskruie’s Publication Ethics and in line with established guidelines from the COPE. All submitting authors must provide, and be able to verify if requested, confirmation that all named authors have approved the final manuscript and that the stated contributions accurately reflect each individual’s role; the corresponding author bears responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of the authorship list, the contribution statements, and timely communication with coauthors.

Finally, all authors are encouraged to disclose any potential competing interests or financial support that could influence the work, and any such disclosures should be made in the manuscript at submission; failure to disclose conflicts of interest may result in the manuscript’s withdrawal or other appropriate remedial actions in accordance with the journal’s ethics policies. In sum, Asshika’s authorship and contributorship policy aims to ensure transparent, fair, and responsible attribution of work, with clear criteria for authorship, explicit recognition of contributors, a justified and documented authorship order, comprehensive Author Contribution Statements, and robust measures to uphold integrity and accountability throughout the publication process.
